"The method devised by Ott, Grebogi and Yorke (referred to as OGY ) is conceptually straightforward. To start, one obtains information about the chaotic system by analyzing a slice of the chaotic attractor. After the information about this so-called Poincaré section has been gathered, one allows the system to run and waits until it comes near a desired periodic orbit in the section. Next the system is encouraged to remain on that orbit by perturbing the appropriate parameter. One strength of this method is that it does not require a detailed model of the chaotic system but only some information about the Poincaré section. It is for this reason that the method has been so successful in controlling a wide variety of chaotic systems."

Just came to me, of all the time I had in my hand, hours ago, just at the time I was ready to go and attend other daily matters, the idea or more likely the notion of incompatibility.

Systems instantiate selves, by virtue of incompatibility. Incompatible states the essence in every system's existence, of ever to be. Incompatible states retain their identity, what makes them unique, and out of, and despite of, their incompatibility, the ties that hold them together, are as strong, and stronger than what pushes them apart. What tries to separate them.

The essence of the existence of opposite forces in reality, like the positive and negative charge, the south and north poles in electromagnetic forces, and even to the core of the atom itself, the strong nuclear force that keeps protons and neutrons together, even down to the quarks within each proton and neutron, and why not down to the strings suggested in whatever way, their interaction is interpreted.

How come I have connected such a notion of incompatibility, with the existence of inertia itself. Inertial forces out of the necessity to hold the structures brought into existence, intact? Counteracting the forces unleashed by each of the incompatible forces, as they are unwilling to co-operate with each other, each one of the participant states, fighting hard to rid themselves from the embrace of the other, assert their uniqueness, but if they do so, the structure built out of such co-operation, collapses, cease to be, and all the structures built upon it, collapse, cease to be. Reality evaporates into nothingness. All that is ever be, ceases to be.

And the forces developed, that keep structures intact, the very existence of the objects, as such, are immensely stronger as they descent to the deepest level of reality, to the atom, to the baryons of these world. And it weakens as it goes up the ladder of existence, systems pulled apart, collapsing with the mere push the weak human individual, can afford.

Joining together incompatible states, what brings a system to be, and the more incompatible being, the stronger the hold.

Mind-boggling ideas. Nonlinear time? Playing havoc with your mind. The musings I found in Chris Opperman's CD Baby website were far far interesting. That beats any bed time conversation by far

"Non-linear time is the theory that states that time doesn't REALLY occur in a linear fashion, but instead is more of a constant. However, we as human beings can only perceive time in chronological order. Some scientists theorize that the reality of time is that the past, present, and future have already occurred," said Linda."

I just liked this initial fervour and before I check this out further I want to put it into my mind and see what will bring out. Some scientists theorize that the reality of time is that past, ..... What reality is that? What realm past, present and future events are, or more precisely took place? And are taking place? Unfold? Since they are events they involve objects, objects that take up space. Time needs space. Space and time go together. Incompatibles? Anyway, leave that.

If the passage of time, the arrow of time can be imagined as vertical, now we have to think that the arrow of time is horizontal, extends horizontally? Bubbles? Bubbles of space? Time creates space and space creates time? The expansion of the universe looked at as the composite effect of time and space? Chaotic composition(?), spawning emergence as a result of time and space being incompatible (again), and by being incompatible means that they are not loosing their identity or integrity at any time but they continue to interact and by this continual interaction bring about the creation of ..., the world, universe, reality, the physical realm itself.

Time will create space? Create space where there is no space? A bubble of space? But space on its own accord can create time. Freshly-made space creates time? A bubble of time? Bubbles within bubbles? Co-existing? Concurring? Events within a bubble unfold in a linear fashion? Corresponded time and space, in each bubble a whole universe, and all the bubbles a multiverse? Space-driven universe and time-driven universe?

Past, present and future happening at the same time? Concurrently unfolding? How can this justify the nonlinear time notion? As a whole, as a multiverse time progresses as spikes, fragments of arrows? Broken into pieces? Constant? As regards, if looked as an aggregate quantity? Of the multiverse? That it could not surpass a defined pre-determined value? Which means that the values in each component universe fluctuate? Universes that exist in the future compensate against universes that exist in the past? Bringing up a multiverse overall aggregate value for time that remains constant? Be that zero? The present?

Or is it not time that is constant, but instead an aggregate value for time and space. Spacetime? A critical value(?), which if it is exceeded the bubble bursts?
The universe bursts? A way to eliminate universes that do not abide with the rule(?)? The rule being that overall, for the multiverse, time or spacetime is constant? To bring along the idea of the parallel universes in countless millions? Each time a decision is made and the world bifurcates? Chaotic bifurcations?

And to bring forth the anthropic principle and account for premonition as Linda mentions

In John Holland's book of 'emergence, from chaos to order' there is something that fits my current streak of thoughts, and though haphazard I feel compelled in contemplating about it, in fear I would loose sight of the track it opens up.

In page 241-242, is mentioned

"In modifying the starting conditions, and in deciding which phenomena are critical or characteristic, insight and taste are indispensable. In the study of emergence, interdisciplinary comparisons are a critical aid in developing these two traits. As I 've emphasized in several places, interdisciplinary comparisons allow us to differentiate the incidental from the essential. When we look for the same phenomena in different contexts, we can separate features that always present from features that are tied to context. Moreover, what is hidden in one context may be obvious in another. Both aspects offer great help in the construction of models of emergence."

The incidental which is context-tied and do not confer any weight in elucidating the rules applied for every phenomenon under the emergence regime and the essential, which is context-free and bears relevance to universal laws emergence adheres to. The constant attempt to discern from all the information phenomena provide to the essential and steer away from the information that its presence appears trivial and it is not crucial in our understanding of the phenomenon itself. Emergence governs every phenomenon and its deeper understanding leads to worthwhile applications in explaining any phenomenon to ourselves.

Without this knowledge we feel lost, overwhelmed unable to function in an appropriate manner.

Merely based on the fact, of the way enters into the minds of people, the perception apparent, forces the mind to make sense accordingly. Constructed out, of in-phase waves, that denotes existence, and when waves do not interfere constructively, that includes all other parts within their total spectrum of their phase, non-existent. A digital approach in the way we observe the universe. The 0 and 1, existence and non-existence, played out by waves. De Broglie waves.

Our notions of volume, dimensions, space 'constructed' out of the wave interference. Re-arrange the concepts associated with the previous outlook to accommodate the newly found notions. Notions of branes, our entire universe contained in paper-thin sheets, planes cross-interacting with one another.

The thought just crossed my mind, at what advantage point can a human individual assert such notion. Whether the notion 'future' bears any relevance, assists in fathoming 'Universe' and Nature as such.

Why not, since its inception the Universe expanded, not only by its space-like components but, its time-like components also. The idea of a frozen universe brought forth as human individuals started contemplating on it. And time as such, only traversed in the same way as space is traversed from one end to the other.

Time a continuum not different than space. Future, present and past merely a human condition.

While these thoughts brought to bear in this haphazard post, a lapse of concentration, one way to call such act, led me in. As if my search to know, the closure required by the thoughts on this subject, drove me in a furtive look on something I pondered in the past, and got me hooked. Supplement, originary lack and invagination. Is it what it goes around here? Supplementation involved in the notion of time the human mind has in store?

Supplement, the ".. inessential extra added to something complete in itself." The notion of time, the 'inessential extra', its past, future, present attributes stripped out completely, leaving out time bare to stand on its ..own feet, then what is left? What time stand-out as different than space? Then why not being traversed in a similar manner as space is?

Dimensionality? The familiar of space, attributed in a similar manner for time? And the familiar time attributes of future, present and past be looked at from the viewpoint of the dimensionality attributes of space. And the space orthogonal perspective being carried on, on time. To make sense out of the notion of past, future and present as orthogonal to each other. And even further, whatever applies for the attributes of time to be carried over and be applied for the attributes of space. The arrow of time device revised? Attributed with the orthogonality apparent to space dimensions.

Space and time separate, and time not seen as another dimension added to space. The notion of spacetime ..un-manageable? Nonsensical?

Precision and predictability. Predicting the outcome a certain behaviour in a system would lead to, branding a behaviour as unpredictable or not. Leading to chaos or order, the eternal conundrum. Precise calculations required of the state in a system, the parametric descriptors of the state, the system is, that define the conditions prevailing in the system. Parameters as quantities to be measured, assigned to be completed by a number-crunching entity, a calculator, hand-held or not, which its operators employ to produce a value which would feed into their formulas describing functions defining future states of systems under observation.

Nature herself employs a similar, but attuned to its overwhelming size, cosmic calculator. Its role to achieve a similar feat, that the human individual counterparts attempt to elucidate observed systems states, discerning their lapse into chaos or not.

Cosmic calculator, emphasized entity to produce the numbers at a cosmic scale dealing with infinities that will be fed into the laws of nature to determine the fate of the universe in every time scale possible, envisaged, imagined.

A tool employed in understanding the workings of nature, the notion of position the meaning conferred and the devise of numbers to ascertain such meaning, the relationships existing between quantities expressed as parameters as if nature herself relies upon the notions human individuals invented to make meaningful nature to themselves.

Human individuals in their efforts to understand nature, their methods employed mirroring nature's own workings, out of the same blueprint according to the law of self-similarity. Nature herself is unable to confer the precision required, amenable to predictability, predictability the essence of evolution in a cosmic scale. Critical values of defining parameters in a system, the points where parameter relationships are defined by solutions running into the realm of irrational numbers. Precision affected, predictability compromised, chaotic behaviour ensues.

Chaotic behaviour ends, as the device of cosmic calculator, in running through the irrational number calculated provides a solution amenable to states involved, order emerges.

A clue to unravel the comings of energy itself, the very essence of it, by toying with ideas, being brought forth by the recent breakthrough mentioned in the article 'Antimatter Trapped For the First Time'.

Aiming at explaining energy, what is energy, digging out and down to the origins, the very beginnings of universe itself. As it appears, energy pre-exists all of the fundamental entities. Matter, and antimatter for that ..matter, space and time included, appeared in the scene, called universe, emerged after the primordial ..soup was created. Energy being the real fundamental of all fundamentals, energy pre-existing the very universe itself.

Clues dug out of that article, to be used as fodder for what to come out of such an endeavour

The other reason why this is an important step is its potential to solve our need for unlimited energy.

In language, words concepts vocabulary used, worked and re-worked into finer detail, in the minds of people or even in the mind of just an individual. The concept elaborated, the meaning it carries refined and in the process looses everything that does not apply in the meanings attributed. What does not comply with the states is used to explain. Debris discarded, junk thrown into a void, never to be visited again, surpassed by human knowledge. Entropy increased? Gives a measure of the notion of entropy? How it is derived and its proper significance? In the way that people would explain its occurrence?

Such a void is continually filled with discarded obsolete remnants of concepts overtaken by more robust, to the point concepts? A process that is ongoing, not only for language but for any complex system? The universe, nature itself? A thought sprung out from the idea put forth in R.D. Smith's 'Social Structures and Chaos Theory'(1998) extract.

The architecture of the lattice provides limits to what flux patterns are possible, what features still hold for complex systems. Trimming off the nodes of the networked complex systems, nodes that were once determining the states of complex systems, are no more. Obsolete, superseded all the patterns upon which complex systems relied upon now debris, junk representing the entropy of the systems. How the entropy in systems increases.

Since this is quite evident in human systems, all the junk that litters landfills as technology surpassing their use, they are now obsolete. The same goes in the sphere of ideas holding for the systems people use to govern their societies, how many of them have been abandoned, the noetic landfills, the ever increasing entropy of culture and civilisation.

I wander how would that notion can be applied in much wider scales, nature and the universe itself, what would its original use, of universe entropy and the laws of thermodynamics.

As, the architecture lattice gets smaller and smaller, that doesn't mean it runs out of space, but by getting deeper into microscales, diverging and converging into, bifurcating constantly, fractal notions enabled, the space upon which phases-states, develop reaches the quantum realm, revealing as yet undiscovered chunks.

Nano-technology's progress bears witness, and what about Moore's Law, how this could be accommodated along these notions.

Parts that are represented as nodes, referred by the connectionist model. Nodes and networking contributing to a whole, a whole out of the nodes participating. The nodes, the functioning parts. Node the functioning equivalent of the part, the subsystem itself.

Node (in function), the nodes interconnected at a given time, what gives the pattern, as being dynamic, the states instantiated snapshots if the time dimension is regarded as external. Snapshot states, time dimension included, frozen incorporated spacetime, talking about spacetime windows out of space and time.

Societies themselves prove such a point. The point of non-existence. It is hard to come to terms with it. Its virtuality of non-existence, its virtual non-existence. The new generation born within the frame of the current status and states the societies are, made out of the patterns prevailing, are impossible to unable to think past societies. Past patterns followed and adhered to, virtually non-existent, carried only in the memories of adults who even them suffer the same symptoms. It is hard even for them to come to terms with the way societies were in the past. If it wasn't for knowledge kept, in the minds of people, in books, in customs in culture, it would have been written out of existence completely. Old realms are hardly visited or forgotten, irreversibility at bay.

John Holland's emergence, the mathematics included? Taking to the extent a bifurcation should be thought as taking place to a single point of a massively complex structure, the state it represents and that single point as by drawing annealing trajectories becomes a node, is incorporated into the flux, the flow and out of the flow the pattern. The pattern that the system exhibits, emerges.

Bifurcation equates with, learning. Enables opening new inroads for knowledge to trod, new phase space. Diverging out of the already existing nodes, the orbits that keep the flux dynamic into new realms, new phase space.

Already existing nodes, giving out the patterns prevailing and nodes which have been superseded, (not used), are fallen into disuse. Relevant phase space abandoned, no longer used.

Quantum and chaos brought together with one another? In what way? I read in John Gribbin's 'Q is for Quantum, Particle Physics from A to Z', page 391, for 'quantum leap'.

"quantum leap
The important feature of a quantum leap is that it is discontinuous transition between quantum states. For example, an electron 'in' one energy level in an atom jumps instantly into another energy level, emitting or absorbing energy as it does so. There is no in-between state, and it does not take any time at all for the leap to occur."

It does not take any time at all, absence of time. Time refuted at a deep fundamental level. Its existence as relative to the frame it is referred to, the simplest states in nature, materialising by the jump of an electron from energy level to energy level.

Jerky moves smoothed out. As the level the observer looks at, at ever decreasing scales as its field of view is continuously zoomed out, to include less and less information, spiky edges in a rough terrain gradually vanish. The details disappear. Zooming in and out, smoothing roughing fields of study, a perspective employed to explain all phenomena undergoing.

Zooming in, rough terrains appear. The information that brings forth allows to distinguish between a process and the outcomes of processes, the solid objects that appear in front of us, regardless size, shape, form dimensions as such, from a chair to earth, to sun stars and galaxies. By zooming in, the observer discriminates the process from its outcome, revealed within the time-frame it takes place, practically its history. Any object reveals itself in chunks of time discontinuously. Chunks of time including within the objects materialised. Atoms at the microscales the processes out of the nuclei-orbiting electrons interacting with nuclei-bound protons and neutrons, themselves out of processes at a deeper level, process histories as such , and by annealing their histories, they take up space (create space?). In a grander scale massive objects but nevertheless, processes themselves, out of combined chunks of time of all constituent comprising entities, the constituent histories and all the space they take up. The world of objects, a puzzle of immense proportions of discontinuous chunks of time. Time scattered, time-chunks, pieces here and there that appear uniform, smooth, continuous by virtue of residing within one of the time-chunks. Their boundaries limiting scope and perspective.

Universe, world, nature, whatever it is called, all that is, virtually discontinuous processes, continuity amenable to the eye of a beholder thanks to the limits imposed by insurmountable boundaries, what the senses have been engineered to, a cage that only imagination can escape.

Imagination and world-the-outcome of processes, at the same footing, quantum and chaos hand-in-hand.

Processes undergoing by what other than chaos, at every level imaginable. The same principle applies for all processes, despite their scale, nature-made and man-made. The discontinuity introduced by virtue of quantum mechanics, completes the picture and along with chaos provides a tool to explain all phenomena. To my mind that could be used to question the outcomes brought forth by Darwinism, the smooth or not so smooth transition of species and the survival of the fittest to discontinuous transition in speciation what goes along with the notion of habitat-bound replacement than survival of the strongest. Discontinuity that does not require class struggles. A virtual leave and let live scenario.

meaning not out of sake of the ignorant masses but for the sake of the individual, the all-surpassing unit that populates earth

(a snippet found in .. out of a burst of chaos in my mind .. a year ago .. unfinished .. but I do not have in front of me what triggered it .. and I do not know how to finish it now .. and I fear I might loose its essence .. my conscious mind interfering .. what I have right now in my mind .. what stopped me in my tracks .. is the connection of meaning .. with nature .. meaning brings us close to nature .. one with nature )

and that meaning the individual achieves goes hand-in-hand with nature. The way nature has developed or develops or will develop, or even ignoring this distinction of time, and just state the way nature develops, in a way that (is reminiscent of) affirms the tenets of Occam's razor.

Chaos theory trashes the notions of equilibrium.

In 'Human Brain and Psyche as Complex Systems' by Gerald Schueler in page 2, under the title 'Chaos Theory', mentions..

"1. Equilibrium. One of the findings of chaos theory is that complex systems that seem to be in equilibrium are not really in equilibrium. Systems damped by friction, and driven by some kind of energy input, while appearing to be at an equilibrium state, are not really at equilibrium at all. Tiny variations are present which can send the system into chaos at any time. Complex systems, require far-from-equilibrium conditions in order to maintain self-organization or growth (Cohen & Stewart, 1994; Gleick, 1987; Kellert, 1993; Prigogine & Stengers, 1984)."

Equilibrium. May be its usefulness is past and gone. Dwindling into oblivion? A concept whose properties do not, and are not supported by the currently held knowledge. Superseded and turned obsolete by other concepts risen, and its continued use only deters a deeper exploration in the phenomena. A conceptual baggage in need of being rid off. Imperative the need to be replaced by concepts that they are more in tune and in the gist of the phenomena to be explained. In its ashes the concept of 'dynamic' emerges.

Thoughts straight out of the inability of the concept to attain a clear definition. Complex systems seem or appear to be in equilibrium but they are not. The apparent nature of equilibrium relying upon what is seen and not what lies underneath, expressed by a variable external to a system under study, one that an external observer finds appropriate and defines, befitted to the lack of means during the time of its original usage was ever thought. As the deeper probing into the underlying nature of systems, any system, has been gradually enabled, reveals its inadequacies. Redundant, likewise, nonsensical the far-from-equilibrium reference as a requirement for complex systems. The dynamic nature of complex systems under the continuous subjection to incompatible forces, a constant source of tiny variations ever ready to kickstart a bout of chaos, to test all possible outcomes to its evolution to the next state of existence.

Nevertheless, incisive the attribution to chaos of self-organization and growth, systems driven to perfection, to wholeness complete, overriding the necessity of any equilibrium.

Continuous attractors and memory retrieval?

This extract intrigued me. It is from the abstract of the paper titled as 'Context-dependent retrieval of information by neural-network dynamics with continuous attractors', published in the journal, Neural Networks, Volume 20, Issue 6, August 2007, Pages 705-713, cited in the ScienceDirect website

"Our results suggest that keyword extraction by the neural-network dynamics with continuous attractors might symbolically represent context-dependent retrieval of short-term memory from long-term memory in the brain."

I want to toy with these ideas as they drew my attention, the former act itself, in my mind relevant to what they mentioned in their findings. Short-term memory retrieves context-dependent information from long-term memory. As I read through the paragraph, the spontaneous and instantaneous formation of short-memory, quickly linked with relevant information, the context-dependent factor, in long-term memory. Is retrieval a correct term? As, in my mind, what it actually took and takes place.

The world is finite. The chaotic process that spawned the universe has an end.

What refers to continuous,

"In its most precise rendering chaos can only arise when the possibility of any given state repeating itself is potentially zero."

drawn out of the necessity of '.. any given state repeating itself is potentially zero' and ..

".. a situation in which the orbital pathway of a flow or flux can continue for an indefinitely long period of time (for eternity) without ever passing through the same point twice."

.. despite the flow been allowed to 'run for an eternity'. It should 'never pass through the same point twice'. Continuity, put down as a prerequisite for the flow to be chaotic, a flow that requires to have no end, and such an end is met at the boundaries of the very universe itself. Phase space meets its limits at the realm of quanta. That puts another twist to the saga of chaos.

The continuity of the chaotic process it is not possible, the space within which it flows is finite even though its boundaries are as enormous as the universe itself is. It is not that this enormous space is quantised which as such it makes the duration of the flow even more immensely enormous, so if it takes an eternity, by being quantised it takes double or many times that eternity but still it is finite as the boundaries of the universe are finite.

And to speak of it, the boundaries of the universe are continuously expanding that augments the space available but still it is finite even if, for a given time, but for any given time, no matter how this interval of time can be comprehended, it is still finite. To what this conclusion points to, is that for a chaotic process, or the chaotic process of the universe is not continuous. There is an end to the chaos that created this very universe. At some point there will be no more space to explore, or even a situation where the chaotic process is catching up with the expansion of the universe itself.

And to add to that, is the current phase space, which according to the account of ever diminishing phase space, as the phase space opens up, explored via the chaos-induced bifurcations, out of the pre-existing phase space, within the space that the creation of attractors has already drawn, their ultimate space available what lies deeper down to the microscales, the world of quanta, excluding from what lies out of the attractors already created, the worlds, the universe that could have been, if at a certain bifurcation in its past a different choice has been made, as by, a different cosmological constant had been chosen.

Social scientists perception of chaos. To serve their own means. Still a way to go.

New ideas brought forth, as I was reading R.D. Smith's 'Social Structures and Chaos Theory', article in Sociological Research Online. In paragraph 3.10, it is mentioned

"In order to have a formal notion of structure which is consistent with the chaos theory paradigm we now need to return to a requirement so far unelaborated."

Formal notion of structure. Formalism, its journey from the means to becoming an end. It is not the formal notion of structure that is required but instead of, of formalism. What formalism is needed for, formalism as the tool to drive the human mind into learning of what nature employs in instantiating reality. Nature is already using chaos to organise itself. What is required by individuals is to unravel nature's workings in order to learn how that work is done. The individual would not tell nature how to do things, the individual would study nature, to learn how nature does things and to acquire a notion of structure as it has been put down by nature, to assist cognition. Human cognition has to devise formal notions, so the human mind will be able to comprehend how nature works. The forms are the props human mind requires in order to fathom into how nature works. Chaos is already there, whether the human mind wants it or not. It is up to the mind to understand how chaos works and not the other way around.

The requirements mentioned, it is not up to chaos to fulfill. Chaos does its job without any need for requirements, the requirements put forth are only a construct the human mind needs in order to comprehend the workings of chaos. Requirements as such it is what the mind requires to understand, to fully comprehend chaos. To elaborate the knowledge the human mind possess in order to fit with what actually happens. The tendency to see chaos as a predicting and controlling tool rather than a fundamental notion, it is what is underlying in that exposure, obstructing a clear view of what chaos is, the progress in the minds of people from chaos theory to chaos.

From an observer status to a controller status, what else could it come out from that statement, declaring what chaos requires in order to arise, seen as a requirement only from the perspective of the individual who has in mind that he has the upper hand in this process, seeking not its explanation for his mind to comprehend but its subjugation to its will, and as a result ignores what is already evident in a chaotic process. The possibility of any given state repeating itself, far removed by the very existence of bifurcations in the menagerie of tools in chaos, how chaos increases complexity within any given system, how does it open up new as yet uncharted phase space, phase equivalent to state, augments creates further space for new potential states to emerge.

Along with the notion of fractional space, fractal space from the macroscales to the microscales, states referred to by the nodes apparent at a certain stage in its development. All nodes present at a certain stage, the totality of all possible combinations, the totality of states possible being the phase space.

Impossible what lies outside the existing node-defined phase space, plausible-possible what still lies within the already existing phase space which is instantiated by bifurcating at any of the nodes already existing but not of any nodes outside phase space, as there are not such nodes existing.

There follows a bold assumption made, which I would require some enormous amount of reasoning to comprehend what was in the mind of the originator.

"To take the illustration of a strange attractor such as the Lorenz attractor what is needed is a situation in which the orbital pathway of a flow or flux can continue for an indefinitely long period of time (for eternity) without ever passing through the same point twice. If this condition is not met the orbit is not in fact chaotic but periodic even though highly convoluted. Eternity is not big enough in the mind of the author, the mind can include eternity within its bounds. Large, the symbol used to depict such a conceptualisation, it is within the grasp of his mind, a mere leap of imagination and the conceptualisation is achieved, it is fathomed, it is controlled, becomes finite, trivialises chaotic behaviour its essence cheapened unworthy of consideration by social scientists.

From such humble beginnings, social scientists marred with complexes of grandeur, epistemology devised to dictate individuals to the what's and why's they do what they do, their social groupings their personalities by the know-alls.

Just by chance they stumbled upon chaos and they want to bring down to their level, down to the bare necessities, what their mind can comprehend, a caricature to serve their needs to retain their position at the pedestal, instead of rising themselves up to the occasion, lowering levelling chaos down.

However it is a beginning but they have a lot of way to go but certainly not with these attitudes.

Still what it puzzles me, is the proposition of the phase-space that, it should be continuous and not quantised. What does it mean? What is the distinction between, continuous and quantised? What kind of phase-space do they have in mind?

Quantised it is the underlying all-inclusive all-pervading state existing where all phase-space resides, the ultimate ground universe-, reality-wide. Continuous from the sense of, bursts of quanta to an uninterrupted stream of energy? It is proven by quantum physics that is not an an uninterrupted stream of energy, a well-established fact.

Then what? Continuous, as the only option left, is attributed to phase-space? What would this actually mean? A continuous phase space? Phase-space primarily thought of, as all the potential states available in a system. States, as defined by the author too, as all the combinations of nodes existing, which, going along with quantised principles, are snapshots of even infinitesimal duration, collating snapshots to reveal reality. The very concept of continuity only applicable for human perception-wide world, our immediate world called classical world from the viewpoint of quantum physics.

The use of continuous for phase-space is meaningless. The assumption bold worthy of social scientists.

Fundamental or emergent?

The only fundamental entity in the universe is energy. And not in the form that is around us now, but the form it existed before the big bang.

I do not think we are able to even grasp what energy is. The reason being that we are dealing with the emergent entities, that is all that physics is about. The carrier particles that transfer energy from place to place are emergent entities and they did not exist 'back then'. Are the energy and carrier particles conceptualisations tightly woven to one another and can not have energy without the carriers?

But physics can not penetrate deeper and offer viable solutions of what energy is.
Descriptions, of immense energy amounts before the big bang, unimaginably hot or super-dense, carry no meaning.

We can not transfer the meanings hot and dense, that have been developed by studying the emergent phenomena to that fundamental context where neither space nor time existed. Hot explained out of the necessity to describe this energy form out of human standards, is not enough to describe the state of energy and energy itself, where there were no standard to measure against. There were no living beings around. Likewise for dense when there were no particles to create the density conditions we now know.

The very meaning of energy we hold now is not applicable. A meaning that is woven around the manifestation of emergent processes while to grasp the full meaning of what energy is should be done without the use of what has emerged out of the big bang. And the only thing that can be said for sure, that carries meaning is that energy is carried or transferred or distributed via the forces of nature. The forces of nature themselves, being an emergent phenomenon itself spawned out of a primeval super-force.

Quantum entanglement computations from the perspective of variable connection points

Chaos, emergence, complexity concepts risen and spread in the minds of people inextricably intertwined, each one built out of the ideas that build the other, notions coming out from the, still fresh in my mind, thoughts expressed by John Holland, in his book 'emergence, from chaos to order', what is mentioned in Chapter 9 titled Variation, page 167,

"With these provisions a mechanism is described by a string over the alphabet {1,0,#}."

an alphabet referring to the elements that comprise an entity and determines its state, a universal alphabet, so simple in its inception, (1) if it exists, (0) if it does not exist and hash (#) if it "doesn't care"

By taking the current stage of the concepts developed for each of these entities, as being their current states, and as for every and any state possible, what it depends upon, therefore owes its existence, being a necessary condition for the state's own existence, and by giving rise to the state's existence, its own existence instantiated, effected therefore verified and proven. Its value (1) for existing.

For what the afore-said state does not depend upon, it doesn't exist. Its presence is not required or even its absence is a must, vital for the state's existence. Other states might require its existence, therefore though its existence is not instantiated in that case and can not be verified or proven, it can be verified and proven by other existent states. Its value (0) for non-existing.

And the "doesn't care" element of the alphabet for all other elements that can be taken as the scenery, since their being there is irrelevant to the state's existence only filling up space in the state's background. Its value (#) for "doesn't care".
And all in the context of the hierarchical structure of nature, being built by levels upon levels of entities all the states that makes such super-structure to exist.

Quantum entanglement, a special case of connections, connections in the sense .. John Holland puts it in Chapter 9, Variation. What is mentioned in the article “Sudden Death” Threatens Quantum Computing, ..

".. physicists need only figure out how rapidly sudden death can occur, then design systems that finish quantum calculations within that window."

a window .. a time-step

Entanglement, underlying nature, one of the mechanisms in its deep deep recesses. Fundamental mechanisms, its ultimate expression, a mechanism or mechanisms ruled by the very same cgp's and especially the penultimate case of cgp's, the cgp-v's .. the variable constrained generating procedures.

Constraints that generate procedures, procedures acting upon variable connection points, an ever changing landscape step-by-step, but for each time-step they are as good as acting on fixed connection points presented as a discreet time-step and in that time-step, the window referred to above, to perform the quantum calculations.

As for storing any outputs, for further use, for posterity, the notation derived and presented by John Holland in Chapter 9 Variation could provide a leeway in accomplishing the entire computation.

Treat the whole entanglement phenomenon as an emergent phenomenon, and use the angles opening up by such an approach to derive the quantum calculations, performed in a series of time-steps as the emergent phenomenon evolves.

Entanglement at the threshold of time, a time that lingers between the conundrum of existence, entanglement as such, its weird properties, a result of how we experience distance.

Distance which becomes a concept on the back of time, and that is the (horse)-back equivalent, as the distance connected it is only comprehended as a derivative of time. The time and by the time it takes, namely the speed, for a message to be transmitted. For the connection to be effected. A connection which, for all concerns it appears as violating physics, a physics developed from our only standpoint, what we have, what is allowed for us, and we can not do anything, but use it and interpret the world through it, though it looks as if it is not the only one that nature has.

What if time is not fundamental, but derived and what appears weird, run against our common sense, our physics, it is not weird at all, but a commonality that we are unable to fathom, as yet.

Emergence, consciousness .. and physical substrates.

How can these, seemingly different notions, can be reconciled? What notions? For once is what Steven Johnson refers to in his O'Reilly network interview, on the subject of emergence..

"Emergence is what happens when the whole is smarter than the sum of its parts. It's what happens when you have a system of relatively simple-minded component parts -- often there are thousands or millions of them -- and they interact in relatively simple ways. And yet somehow out of all this interaction some higher level structure or intelligence appears, usually without any master planner calling the shots. These kinds of systems tend to evolve from the ground up."

Emergence appearing(?)out of systems of simple component parts which they interact in relatively simple ways. This interaction brings about a new structure, (or may be not a new structure, but the old structure revamped), that as a whole, possess qualities not exhibited by any of its component parts.

And the other notion?

Each neuron cell represents a state amidst a multitude of superposed states, the whole brain in a superposition status? The brain in quantum superposition?

.. or the unique features of each pulse do matter .. but at a deeper level. Each pulse, no matter the unique features it carries, is capable of eliciting .. the responses that emerge into sophisticated behaviors .. making up minds ..

.. and the unique features carried are significant at another, deeper level .. a level analogous, to what crossed my mind .. while I was contemplating .. on human resolving time compared with the resolving time of a fast electronic device.

The point - entering my mind right now - is, that the features of waves, which according to the model John H. Holland uses, namely the phase of the pulses-waves as irrelevant for the behaviors they instantiate, are what is appropriate with the reality the human brain is able to extract, engineered into the specific mechanics of the human brain, and not, for that matter, of a fast electronic device.

Equipped with the resolving time of a fast a electronic device the mind, is expected, to be different. Another reality or another aspect of reality, appearing before the eyes of the human individual. Whether, it would end up being another totally different reality or another aspect of reality, it remains to be seen.

What someone can surmise, is that the pulses-waves will be processed in the same way, posited by John H. Holland's model, namely pulses-waves being uniform, represented as simple actions which out of their aggregation, the sophisticated behaviors emerge, something that increases the complexity of reality alongside the apparent capability - or potential - of the human brain, to fathom into this deeper reality in its full extent.

.. in that sentence connected, information, state of motion, frame of reference.

Information, the stuff that concepts are build out with, concepts in-turn materialise, instantiate reality, responsible for the state of motion, how nature unfolds within the bounds of frames of reference. A sentence that ties up, in a specific, dare say unique way, these three entities: information, state of motion, frame of reference.

Specific, unique way, out of the myriad (ignorance exacerbates imagination) ways available for information to be tied up, only a few combinations are allowed, survive to become the stuff for concepts, concepts that define reality, depict the way nature materialises. Information a fundamental entity that each minute detail of its existence, of its state of motion in all frames of reference brings forth. Information as conveyed in all manners of media, for all possible states, but what matters more, for information to assume its fundamental status, is to become the stuff to build the concepts that reality adheres to, is woven out of.

Concepts, as they are applied create a context, the frame of reference, produce a product. The context or product being relevant to the concept by virtue of the meaning it confers, when applied. And what comes out of, when participants in conversations are thinking about concepts, is that concepts are participants also. Concepts are thinking too, what ties human consciousness with nature. The meaning sought out by individuals when thinking the concepts inextricably tied up with the way nature is.

Concepts, in all their manifestations, propositions, theories, axioms, laws, in all the various ways they are used for, to indicate or prove or lead to, employed in thinking, the process that emulates nature's workings, guides our consciousness. It achieves its full potential when individuals make use of chaotic processes entrenched deep into our brains. Where nothing is overlooked, no bit of information possessed or coming across, is irrelevant or insignificant, and coupled with its exponential non-linear mode of being applied, lead to radical overhauls in conceptualising effortlessly.

Able to guide the mind to the right information amidst the penumbrae, seemingly disorganised bits of information, chaos apparent, and out of the penumbrae into brand new insights.

I read the abstract of the paper "Multiple attractors and crisis route to chaos in a model food-chain" by Ranjit Kumar Upadhyay, of the Department of Applied Mathematics, Indian School of Mines ,Dhanbad 826 004, Jharkhand, India published in the journal Chaos, Solitons & Fractals, intrigued my senses, contemplated upon its contents, and the thoughts sparked in my mind, I laid them down as they occurred, as I read through the abstract, line-by-line.

"An attempt has been made to identify the mechanism, which is responsible for the existence of chaos in narrow parameter range ..

narrow parameter range .. the existence of chaos in narrow parameter range .. narrow signifying the small change necessary for chaos to exist .. existence of chaos.

The notion of existence of chaos, is new to me. Is it a way to describe chaos, occurring? It seems as it is extending the properties of chaos, or may be it is better to refer to as extending the concept of chaos.

Whatever, in that particular mention, significant is the reference to a mechanism. The mechanism that is responsible for bringing into existence after, well narrowly manipulating a given connected or attached parameter range. Or, maybe just, parameter. The existence of chaos, a result of manipulating or adjusting the parameter within a narrow range. Values given of the parameter fall into a narrow stretch of the parameter's total possible range of values.

For chaos being dynamic, it postulates, if that term is correct, the necessity of what brought them into existence, in the first place. For the attractors to die, meaning, they lack of what they were fed with, what sustained them. What was necessary for their existence. Once, the condition that was keeping them alive, cease to be, they ceased to be, too.

That what was brought, was induced by a crisis. And their sudden death caused chaos. The existence of chaos, in narrow parameter range. Minute changes in the parameters involved brought chaos into existence. One would assume that this fresh bout of chaos would lead to new chaotic attractors. Chaos, let's say, methodology.

Varying one of the critical parameters in its range while keeping all the others constant, one can monitor the changes in the dynamical behaviour of the system, thereby fixing the regimes in which the system exhibits chaotic dynamics.

In order to identify the result, each of the crucial parameters have, in the overall state of the system, the referred to, as dynamical behaviour, you vary one at a time. Monitoring the changes, varying one of the critical parameters, brings forth. 'Fixing the regimes', what combinations of critical parameters, combined values within their ranges, that exhibit chaotic dynamics, in the sense that certain regimes are more chaotic than others. As, they would be regimes, where the system exhibits no, behaviour at all, by taking behaviour to mean, the tendency for changes, among the members of a population. If, there are no changes, there is no behaviour to speak of, and with the sudden death of the already existing chaotic attractors, there is nothing to keep the system alive. Extinction follows.

Which points towards the realisation that its submersion into chaos, is vital, in order to keep the system alive, to avoid extinction.

The computed bifurcation diagrams and basin boundary calculations indicate that crisis is the underlying factor which generates chaotic dynamics in this model food-chain.

Their purpose ends, the system requires to spring up, rejuvenate itself, if not, the members of the population, in crisis, will perish along with the death of their attractors that was keeping them alive. Chaos is necessary for their survival.

We investigate sudden qualitative changes in chaotic dynamical behaviour, which occur at a parameter value a1=1.7804 at which the chaotic attractor destroyed by boundary crisis with an unstable periodic orbit created by the saddle-node bifurcation.

'saddle-node bifurcation', 'created an unstable periodic orbit' .. unstable, there is no consistency, its trajectory changes between runs, cause a crisis manifesting at the boundaries, the chaotic attractors disintegrates. It is destroyed. As it occurs when a parameter acquires a specific value. An instability embedded in the system as the parameter fluctuates beyond its allowed range. The range that was necessary to keep the system stable, by keeping the periodic orbits stable.

Multiple attractors with riddled basins and fractal boundaries are also observed.

Coupled with stochasticity, such complex behaviours may render such systems practically unpredictable."

Weird notions come into my mind and I like to ponder on them and see to where they take me.

Universe expanding with the speed of light, as is mentioned here too, space expanding.

Outer space? The space between galaxies and stars or all space? Even to the space we occupy ourselves. Blowing up, expanding like balloons in all three dimensions.

It is space itself that expands, is found in NASA's Imagine the universe website,

".. but actually it is space itself that is expanding faster than the speed of light, driving objects further apart at an increasing rate."

The example of raisins in a cake as it is baked and raised up, the raisins on the surface grow distant from one another, but the raisins themselves are built on space, the concept of space is not limited only to the space observed by an individual, but includes as well the space the individual itself occupies, the raisins themselves occupy, even the space their atoms occupy.

The atom built by protons and neutrons enclosed in the nucleus and far far away, in relative terms, the electrons orbiting, an enormous amount of space included and include the point-like entities of electrons, protons and neutrons, attributed with mass equals energy, that space that lies within objects expands too, and expands with the speed of light, or, as it is claimed faster than the speed of light, in order to compensate for the ultimate speed, the speed of light, the limit all objects in the universe can be accelerated to.

We ourselves, as objects of this universe expand in space, or the space that our atoms occupy expand with or faster than the speed of light.

And all done equally, we are none the wiser. The only thing that changes is the distribution of energy in space. Which in a sense is diluted. How this notion would accommodate all what we think about what mass is? Inertial mass, rest mass of a body for zero speed; at any other speed the inertial mass is greater.

According to the equations of special relativity the mass of a body increases as it is gaining speed, it is about three times as much of the inertial mass for speeds at 0.95 of the speed of light and the graphs point to infinite mass as it gets nearer and nearer to the speed of light, asymptotic curve that never touches the y axis as the speed increases to ridiculous decimal increments to the speed of light.

What if space, all around the universe environs expands at the same time? Would an infinite mass postulate still hold? Would the beginnings of the universe from a singularity, an infinitesimal point of infinite energy be more plausible? Energy and space fundamental entities that combining the two together to produce mass? Mass an emergent entity, an entity that becomes apparent only if it is looked at from above a threshold, a macro-threshold, our familiar macro-world loosing completely that attribute when it is looked at from a point below that threshold. Mass concept becomes meaningless from the standpoint of the micro-world, the quantum realm, being only extremely concentrated foci of enormous amounts of energy kept apart by even greater distances of empty space?

What difference would that make if we take the point that this space expands at the speed of light in the same way that the universe itself expands at the speed of light.

It is mentioned in page 166, of the book Experimental techniques in low-temperature physics by Guy Kendall White, Philip J. Meeson

"Most properties of materials are categorised in terms of the phonon system, the electron system and the spin system (i.e. the nuclear or electronic magnetic moments)."

Three subsystems that make up for most of the properties of materials, the physical and chemical properties, matter organised into the macroscopic system of the physical world, determine how the physical world behaves.

"These different subsystems, although intimately mixed together in any one material, can be separated in the imagination and analysed as independent systems."

Determine physical behaviour as the embedded sub-systems are intimately mixed, which brings into mind attractors and synchronization, attractors achieved by the ever so slight tweaking of relevant parameters, the electron-phonon interactions synchronized, by even the transient fluctuation enhancement referred to as peculiar to macroscopic systems, triggered by the exposure to additional parametres brought in, by the other embedded sub-systems.

These three subsystems separated and analysed independently? Their connections severed, each one imagined on itself? An approach which can be followed on all subsystems, lower-dimensional systems embedded in higher dimensional systems, the macroscopic systems? Understanding the relationships between embedded and embedding systems, all systems in all realms, portable via the self-similarity principle of chaos.

And all the while, each sub-system being dynamic, ever so 'touchy' to any changes introduced by either sub-system, via the electron-phonon interaction.

"Consider for example the separation of the phonon system from the electron system in a metal. This proceeds from the knowledge that the phonon system is 'heavy' arising from the motion of ions in the lattice whilst electrons are light. The mass difference (and differing statistics) influences the available energy levels in each system and ultimately limits the flow of momentum and energy between the two systems."

The phonon system 'heavy', the electron system 'light' a matter of size. The phonon system arises from the motion of ions, the electron system from electrons. This mass difference limits the flow of momentum and energy between the two systems, practically isolated from one another, each system with its own agent, phonon electron, interactions between their agents determine their behaviour.

Accordingly, it can be assumed that any introduction of extra agents, like nanoparticles upsets this balance, the flow of momentum and energy, between the two systems, as the mass of the nanoparticles being similar in size, could introduce novel interactions, leading to the emergence of properties, alien to the subsystems. The observation of novel chemical and physical properties in nanoparticles, when introduced into the nanoscales, indicative of this process.

"This 'adiabatic' or Born-Oppenheimer approximation regards the two subsystems as separate but interacting via an electron-phonon interaction."

Embedded sub-systems separate but interacting via an electron-phonon interaction? Interacting as sub-systems? Preserving their integrity, their independence of a sort. An adiabatic boundary, a barrier that prevents the direct flow of energy and momentum from an embedded system to another or even the embedding macroscopic system apart from the electron-phonon interaction, each sub-system the 'whole' by itself and as a whole interacts.

I feel I have stumbled once again onto something which will augment my knowledge, my perspective. It will drag me away from my current endeavours to bring me back enhanced and ready for new challenges.

Writing unhindered by any considerations deemed irrelevant for my pursuits. Enough introduction, back to the point.

Šil'nikov phenomena, are referred to, in this paper titled 'Poincaré versus Boltzmann in Šil'nikov phenomena'. It was the climax of my google searching, following terms like, subordinate Šil'nikov bifurcations, Sil'nikov-saddle-node interaction, Šil'nikov phenomena, Sil'nikov chaos.

Analyse the terms and deepen my knowledge by examining the effects, the mentioned concepts had on the knowledge already held in my reverberated neural nets and in the process ascend whatever fragments are there, and emerge in new knowledge, new ways of looking at things.

In the abstract of the paper, 'Poincaré versus Boltzmann in Šil'nikov phenomena', it mentions

"By suitable adjustment of the control parameters in a CO2 laser with feedback we show experimental evidence of Sil'nikov chaos, ..."

... control parameters, as in parameters and variables. Parameters, of which their values are considered if not unchanged, changing within a very narrow limiting and limited range, as in any fractal-making program, what you tweak ever so slightly, to get all kinds, versions of the initial fractal. Suitably adjusting the parameters, deemed as controlling in the CO2 laser. Feedback providing the iteration part, the recursiveness in function, for chaos coming.

Experimental evidence of Sil'nikov chaos? What kind of chaos is this?
It further mentions,

".. characterized by intensity pulses almost equal in shape, but irregularly separated in time."

Intensity pulses irregularly separated in time, their experimental setup signature of chaos. Irregularity signifying chaos.

"The times of return to a Poincare section are statistically spread,.."

Poincare sections traversing its flow in time, incisions right through its fractal space, revealed statistically spread times of return, the order hidden amidst chaos. Chaos generating order.

Chaos as described in mathematics, measuring fluctuations in the intensity of forces, stresses, pressures plotted into graphs or even plain mathematical functions, self-referential, iterated loosing themselves into chaos. Translated into all kinds of forces exhibited in all systems possible. Physical, mental, emotional, psychological, social, spiritual systems analysed in the very same way as mathematical chaos.

The map of the iterated points is one-dimensional? All falling onto a single line? Or the map, being a function and the one-dimensional referred to, its mathematical property. And all this, .. 'in close agreement with that arising from Sil'nikov theory'.

An appropriate indicator of this chaos? Sil'nikov chaos. The one-dimensional iteration map of the time intervals?

Macroscopic systems distinct from low-dimensional chaotic dynamics? Underlying systems different than systems above? Chaotic dynamics of underlying systems, systems embedded within systems above, low-dimensional as embedded systems are bound to have less dimensions, than the system they are embedded in, embedding system which includes more than one low-dimensional systems.

The transient fluctuation enhancement peculiar to macroscopic systems? Due to the influence of additional parametres a low-dimensional system is exposed to, by the other low-dimensional system(s) that together comprise the macroscopic system they are embedded in?

Each low-dimensional system compensating for the introduced parameters, tweaked. Embedded low-dimensional systems integrated and together now determine the properties, attributes, the behaviour of the macroscopic system.

In Philosophic Wonders

"The Sun and its family of planets are orbiting the galaxy at about 135 miles per second."

The solar system moves at 135 miles per second, relativity's essence. Where the hell do we draw the certainty, be so sure, letting ourselves feel peace and tranquility, when we relax bathing in the sunshine lying in oblivion, on a beach lounger. In the knowledge, that at the same time, planet earth along with us, are propelled into the vacuum of space, in shearing shattering speeds. If we subject, the hapless fragile human being, in these tremendous unreal speeds, we will be lucky to find traces of the bones to verify its past existence.

And yet, here we are, alive and well, despite the speed we travel in space, to have the arrogance to enjoy, a peaceful morning. Peaceful. Anything else apart.

Centripetal force, the essence of gravity, what keep us pinned on the ground. That do not let us, being swept away from the face of planet earth, and not only us, but what keeps the dust, the rocks on the face of the moon and all the rest of the planets and other so-called heavenly bodies.

Gravity, that sucks us inwards, towards the centre of planet earth, to spare us the oblivion of our precious being, by the shattering speeds, our very own nurturing earth, is itself subjected to.

Apart from the solar system traveling at 135 miles per second, we have as well that

Devastating forces that would have left nothing standing, long enough, that not only life nurtured, in the warm and welcome abode of planets, but even the existence of these wonderful incubators, if it wasn't for the protection offered by the gravitational forces, that not only effectively counteract against the shearing power of the speeds developed, by heavenly bodies in their endless journey in the vast space but even overcomes it, for us to enjoy the tranquility of nature.

Heavenly bodies in their endless journey around the centre of... The centre of .... their very own system or any other system they are part of. Earth orbiting around itself, moon orbiting around itself and moon orbiting around earth, the earth-moon system. Earth orbiting around the sun, the planets orbiting around the sun, the solar system around... Circularity.

Driven by gravity itself and by gravity is counteracted. The shearing speeds that the motion, its very own existence propagates and as it is counteracted by, at the same time. A dependency built-in, in the system, in each system by itself, the speed and the forces developed cannot be greater, than what the heavenly body can withstand. The speed of rotation around itself, as well as around the larger body in the system, would not be allowed to reach levels that would jeopardize its very own integrity. The seemingly hazardous journey, a gentle stroll in comparison.

How can we comprehend the nature of gravity, when we think of its appearance, as it vanishes down to the centre of a heavenly body. Attraction, of every piece of matter upon each other. Additive, as more and more pieces of matter accumulate, the stronger it becomes. Heavenly bodies borne out of dust, stardust as it has been found, accumulating into foci driven by chance (chance?) ... for more and more dust particles to gather up into the heavenly bodies which they become. What they are now. Matter may be pushed into coalescing, ... by the very vacuum surrounding it ... via pressures they are subjected to. Is it just a vacuum pressure effect or an actual attraction of matter objects. The actual rotation of a heavenly body around itself, a vacuum pressure effect. The same would hold valid, regarding the rotation of a heavenly body around its bigger counterpart in the system, rendering the presumed action at a distance character meaningless, what elevates gravity from a purely classical force into a fundamental force. Is the search for the graviton justified, or even the existence of gravitational waves feasible, the search for gravitational waves a futile endeavour.

The whole case, can be thought of in terms of systems. Systems within systems, a guiding principle universal for all systems. Systems that are dynamic ...

Oh, well fractal. Is there anything apparent in the galaxy system that would justify the term fractal? May be not merely in its spatial dimensions, but taking into account its evolution through time too. Energy dissipation. Energy being apparently high, at the very centre of a galaxy, stellar nurseries, black holes. Dissipating to lower and lower energies towards its perimeter. Fractal being characterized by its non-integral nature, non-integral dimensions. Is there any indications of non-integral dimensions in the galaxial system organisation?

What about warped spacetime, wormholes and the like. Does that not point towards a fractal evolution for the galaxy system. Gravity a mere manifestation of energy dissipation governed even by the Feigenbaum series concept.

Convergence or divergence determining the way that chaos is viewed by individuals? Diverging pathways, or for that matter constantly diverging pathways, result in what as seen as chaos and converging pathways create attractors, which can be seen as order?

... determining a measure of Lyapunov exponents out of the processes involved which will show whether the processes undertaken will bring about order or chaos? In almost everything which evades a thorough analysis by any other prescribed procedures but exhibiting chaotic tendencies?

Rigorous mathematics, scientific proof, all part of cognition which is taking place outside, from where it should be taking place. The human mind. As meaning is derived by mind itself, it can not materialise in spheres other than what the mind provides for. And attempting to frame meaning, with processes that the language provides it is a futile endeavor, because at the end the whole process must be accepted by the mind itself.

As all these I have been working out, put into these posts .... are getting pieced up together, become coherent.

(Regression). I have to analyse this. The way it happens. What makes a thought developed independently, loose as is, with no ties (obvious?) with any other thoughts (residing in some other realm, context). But out of no-where, without warning, nevertheless click (systems exhibiting chaos' self-similarity?), or hook, or whatever, one with the other. They become connected, tag and drag along the entirety of the concept, notion, thought, idea; the bonus being, all the rest of the properties and attributes, these mental structures, are associated with. A bonus since, as the thinking develops, all these properties and attributes, branching-like extensions on all sides, are engaged in the thinking process. Being tags themselves, either concepts, or notions, or thoughts, or ideas, potentially concise and coherent mental structures, on their own right, they have all what is needed, to form by themselves, novel associations. The word 'concepts', as it comes into mind, with their properties (as they develop), provide the associations, and by virtue of their associations, cohere from ..(humble, incoherent, haphazard) beginnings ... into more inclusive concept circa thoughts.

Space, (as I have surmised in that post) was non-existent before the big bang, or in the manner we experience it right now. (Vast, solid objects within, immense, three dimensional, containing or expressed with or give substance to the word-concepts of macrocosm and microcosms). Space, distance developed fractally the world we live in, the universe, just a thin fractally developed sheet. Attributed as 'real scientific treat' if the colliders do not find any proof of the Higgs boson existence? Why would my mind stop at that particular sentence?

It is not its existence that is doubted, ... but its existence in a ... free form in the universe? ... that the universe is inhabited by a vast number of Higgs bosons, hiding obscuring their presence? ... it is what part of the universe they inhabit, it's what matters.

While this is unlikely, seeing as how the experimentalists have found 60 of the 61 particles that appear within the standard model, it sure would make the next few years interesting, both for scientists in the field and interested third parties like science journalists."

I read in the article 'A Prayer for Archimedes', about the long-lost text by the ancient Greek mathematician which shows that he had begun to discover the principles of calculus.

In the claim put forward by Reviel Netz, an historian of mathematics at Stanford University who transcribed the newly found text, says that the recent discoveries show that Archimedes indeed used the notion of actual infinity.

Infinities, as defined by Aristotle, mentioned here

"The Greek philosopher Aristotle built defenses against infinity's vexing qualities by distinguishing between the "potential infinite" and the "actual infinite." Archimedes being willing to operate with actual infinity, an infinitely long line, instead of a line that could always be extended. A potentially infinite line, what Aristotle argued that exists, whereas the actual infinity did not exist.

So, there is not infinity as such, whatever name it can be given, actual or potential, since an infinite line can always be extended. There are no boundaries.

But the infinity of decimal numbers, lying between two integer numbers, it has boundaries. The two integer numbers that lies within. Does having boundaries determine the kind of infinity it is? The infinity of decimal numbers between two integers, can not be extended beyond the integer boundaries.

It cannot be potentially infinite, it can only be actual infinity, what the calculus uses. What has driven Archimedes "strong intuition that it should work", and why "In this case, it did work". And it works when dealing with infinities that the boundaries are known or postulated beforehand.

What "it remained for Newton and Leibniz to figure out, how to make the argument mathematically rigorous.

Confusing the issues amidst vague statements, if "the argument is definitely not completely valid." What is valid, what is completely valid, what is not completely valid, and what is definitely not completely valid. How is validity defined, what is required to make an argument valid.

I read further in the same article

Does that not imply the fractality inherent in all nature's objects, chaos driven processes surpassing, traversing fractal dimensions, from the microscales to the macroscales weaving the perfections of its author, chaos. Actual infinities trapped within the delimiting boundaries of any nature's object, all objects.

Ideologies, dogmas, doctrines developed, their whole range starting from anarchy and communism on one end to its other end of the spectrum capitalism and fascism, individuals deeply entrenched, they are all, being so absolute, try hard to convince you, that their way of thinking, is the only way of thinking.

Calling it the truth, their very own version of truth.

The concept of truth is non-existent. Its alleged attributes can not be realised outside the mind of the single individual and as such it assumes a variety of contents. This essayist gives its own account on that matter, a clearer perspective avoiding muddling the issue further.

Adhering to the truth or truths individuals resist, deny themselves the exposure to myriads of new concepts and drives them into ignorance and by that stupidity, as less and less stimuli, (how information around us arouse, excites and triggers thoughts in our minds), are taken into consideration, or even information pass unseen, unnoticed, unregistered by our senses and our mind's attention.

Loosing themselves in the complexity, perplexing, ever-expanding, constantly creating and re-creating itself, without realizing that all that enormous complexity suffocates within narrow and limiting boundaries. Bloated to the hilt, squeezing and stretching its rigid boundaries to no avail and certainly unable to offer any viable solutions to problems faced, loosing touch with reality.

A complexity, as such, with an infinite capacity, the same infinite capacity in fitting decimal numbers between the numbers 1 and 2. You have an infinite cohort of numbers from 1,01..... to 2.99998 that lie there but can never pass below number 1 or above number 2.

In the same way all their intellect's productive output, the ideas they carry and develop, it will never pass the narrow boundaries set by their prospective ideologies, dogmas or doctrines or whatever other way it can be called, or the so much revered truth construct. The truths they adhere to.

An educated ignorance, which denies the use of the most valuable of our brain's and mind's processes, that worths a lot. That of the ability to make the strange familiar and the familiar strange.

As a seamless whole is presented to our consciousness as whole patterns and processed as such. All the information elements bound in the pattern, are dragged along, no matter how relevant they appear to be. Even if they are seemingly incompatible or contradict with one another.

Emergence? And its incompatibility pre-requisite for emergent properties to rise? The consciousness whole pattern processing allowing emergence to appear? Working towards achieving that goal?

Hot-footing towards justifying the inequalities writhing in societies the world over? Aimed at making sure that individuals yield to the power of states, states overrun by a handful of individuals whose only and single goal is to accumulate riches, forcing every one else to submission? ... to their will?

The jungle rules ok amidst our societies. Is it just an attempt, for people to find acceptable the current state of affairs, the world over? The domination by the fittest of the weak of our world?
That there some of us that are better than the rest of humanity? And these better individuals deserve more than every other individual put together? That they even deserve first ticket in the rat-ship out of this world, as it heads towards its certain doom, when is proved to be beyond redemption, destined to oblivion? And the rest of humanity, the undeserved, will be left behind, to be extinguished along the ravaged by the unscrupulous exploitation in the pursuit for ever more profits, planet? To suffer the consequences and be sacrificed?

What is hidden behind the triumph of natural selection, that they so admire? The ruthless struggle for survival, the proverbial jungle the world is. The human affairs ruthlessly distorted, pervaded in every aspect human relationships are nowadays, out in a never-ending competition. Is that what it is? Competition that could lead to extinction of the weak?

What kind of thoughts, the remark of Richard Fortey, quoted here, can lead to?

Abolishing money can not be taken as an act of revenge on any 'in-whatever-way-it-can-be-assumed" wrong-doers of an age past. Emerging societies where money are abolished can not be thought off according to the standards prevailing in societies nowadays. It is a goal to be reached and the only thing it can be done in our present age and time is to sow the seeds for its coming. As the human individual, in either collective or individual level is unable or incapable to forsee the ensued complexity in human relationships that lies ahead.

It is not or it will not be the triumph of socialism or any other kind of system upon other. It is not going to be the result of class struggle but instead of co-operation among individuals regardless their background. I would say it precludes and excludes any system of government currently present the world over, in fact any such system would be abolished before money are abolished. It is not a system where individual or collective will can be forced upon any single or group of individuals. Wealth would be a valid concept, no more.

Government will shed its cloak of power and the administrators duty will be just as any other duty, any other individual undertakes. It is a path that all human individuals will tread alongside each other, humanity in its natural course where all individuals are accounted for.

Complete replacement rather than competition? And initial conditions looked at, from a chaos perspective.

So, the whole universe can easily fit in a sheet of infinitesimal thickness?

Exciting aspects, in what I have read in Cellular automaton models in Digital Philosophy website which compels me to write them down, raw as they are.

I read in New Scientist of 3 February 2001, article 'Mass medium' pp. 22-25, in page 24

"Rather than being empty, the vacuum is a choppy sea of randomly fluctuating electromagnetic waves. We don't see or feel them because they pop in and out of existence incredibly quickly, appearing only for a split second. These fleeting apparitions are called virtual photons."

'In and out of existence'? What is that existence? How can we fathom it? Describe it, define it. Is it reality proper, and specifically its lowest level? As space being there, created to accommodate, to contain infinitesimal particles, their energy halo, their fields? A space, a reference frame, within a more fundamental space as it comes out from what Ed Fredkin says, in New Scientist of 21 June 2003, article 'In the beginning was the Rule' pp. 32-35, in page 35,

"Fredkin says such objections arise because other people do not understand the concept of space he is working with. 'The space of physics isn't defined by the cellular array', he says. 'It's defined by the paths that free particles take in the cellular array'."

The space Ed Fredkin came up with, working on his theory based on cellular automata, is more fundamental, underlying the space physics study, including the 'existence' of virtual particles, that pop in and out it. 'It' being existence. What if, following the leads given above, assume that the virtual particles primarily exist in the fundamental space, Ed Fredkin proclaims. By virtue of their designated name, 'virtual' particles, therefore attribute the underlying fundamental space as 'virtual' space, where they reside and from there, they make their fleeting appearances in the 'existence', physics observes and measures.

Invade our familiar space, and reveal their existence more likely, than pop in and out of existence. What if, the cells in Ed Fredkin's digital universe, are fractal cells, virtually fractal corridors, extremely thin, or thin enough to accommodate photons, permeating the universe, indicating its nature, a fractal universe, a fractal reality.

The virtual particles teeming the vacuum, simply being the cross-sections of universe's fractal corridors passed by, in the endless motion of particles within.

Convention? What kind of convention is that? Agreement or compromise?

Convention? Like interpretation? How the mind instantiates 'realty'? Or, how human minds, as a 'populace' agreed to look upon 'realty'? A second stage act following a first stage act of a single human mind observing 'realty', and after that, it passes its concluded thoughts about the observations, as it sits down with other mind-bearers to agree to a common approach. On how to interpret the conclusions amassed, provide a name-symbol, and use it to depict what is conceived? The stuff of concepts? Reaching an accord? At least that is how reason should work.

Or is it convention within a single mind, that makes the 'atoms and space' realty into something that agrees with its unit make-up, its senses and its body? And since, its senses and its body, are what it has to work with, it can not do anything else, but use them. Convention being more like a compromise? Its unit make-up, a result of endless processes between the 'atoms and space', that realty is, have confined the individual in a level of existence, isolated from all other levels above and below, trapped, bound by impenetrable boundaries? Only its mind is left out free to roam at any level, up or down, and beyond? Traverse right down to the bottom levels, even further below than 'atoms and space' lay?

The space of the DM is certainly not the space of the RUCA.

Why is the mind capable to traverse impenetrable boundaries? Is it because what lies down there, is made out of the stuff, the mind is made up from?

As space expands outwards since the big bang, it expands inwards too?

Space an emergent product?

Italicized journey of thoughts, emanated by naive observations badly, anything but eloquently, expressed but nevertheless building towards new perspectives in my mind, as I gradually assimilate, (my very own meaning construction process), informed, worked-out assumptions presented by experts in the field

Heck! I forgot about that. The four blinking lights in two rows and two columns, (a matrix(?)), a rectangle near square, surrounding a two-digit number display(?). Alternate blinking of the lights per row. The two lights lying on a row were lit at the same time. One time interval, 1 time-step, then off. In the next time-step, the lights in the other row were lit, then off. Alternate lighting up per row continuously. The lights, as looked from afar gave the impression of a light running up and down. The perception of a single(!)... (the whole(?)) light jumping up and down incessantly. The lights, as being looked at, from near, did not give the impression of a running light, instead each single light in the row was constantly switched on and off. The illusion or perception of a running light, a shining beam going up and down, only given by the lights looked at from afar, but not when looked at from near. Distance of the lights from the observer being crucial? For the illusion of a running light(!) to be perceived by the observer.

Light, transmitted as waves. In both cases by different sources, but the distance from the observer would make a difference in its perception. What it is perceived. In my mind, this is how waves are perceived in our minds, and by that reality. Distance being crucial in the way waves are perceived. It is connected with perceived coherence and our ability to distinguish between simultaneously emitted waves. It is what I dealt with, as well, after I read this article about the human resolving time.

Anyhow, it evades me at the moment, but the thought that occurred to me, is connected with the microscopic world, the world of quanta.

Oumf, space being an emergent phenomenon? There is no actually space, we do not really probe space, as it is not there? It emerges as a result of the processes involved. That even flat, let's call it space, is sufficient to describe it as. The branes, to use a word from string theory, a flat surface that contains or includes, all our universe. The onion with its laid-out skins of fractal universes?

And to go back to the idea of distance being crucial to how we perceive incoming waves. Waves from atomic and sub-atomic particles, quanta for that matter, as they are perceived by virtue of the energy, they emit; in waves, each by itself a unique, single source, but what we experience, by virtue of a function(?) that combines all these waves to the reality perceived? As it emerges as reality?

And where the waves come from? They come from a distance quite afar and that's why we perceive them as running or interacting with one another.

A distance that increases as we go deeper and deeper into the microscopic world? which even creates the impression of interaction?

Interference of the waves, which we mistake as motion?

Distance, as it is experienced in the classical world and distance, by which, out of the quanta, the packets emitted, we perceive the world as is?

(in a manner analogous to combined?)

That all reality can be explained by looking at it from that angle, distance; distance from the observer, the human individual. To begin with there is the quanta, packets of energy, waves. As the waves are dispatched in packets, effectively blink, incessantly, and the observer which senses these processes from a distance; far far away; namely the distance to the microscales, to Planck length itself. A distance so remote and yet so close? The observer surmises continuity out of the stream of packets, and by that reality?

How can that happen?

Distance should not be conceived as a straight line? Instead it should be conceived as the line weaving a fractal? Unfolding in near infinite trajectories, laid out in layers upon layers, closely knit, infinitesimally thin onion-like skins, barely touching each other unraveling into infinite fractal or fractional dimensions? Infinities reminiscent of the infinities that lies between two integer numbers?

Distance, what measures the length of space between objects, looses its meaning? Distance, as we experience it in the macroscopic world, and the distance to the microscales, both work in the same way? Provide continuity for our minds to perceive? A fundamental process of our minds with distance, and therefore length, space, being the products? Emergent products?

For any effect, the world we live in, the reality for us, might unravel in infinite fractal dimensions inside thin sheets, as thick as A4 paper.

Quantum computers, the panacea of computing. What about chaotic computers?

I read in The 25 Questions about Physics for the Next 25-30 Years

Quantum computer? Is there not one already? Looking for a quantum computer, but what about a chaotic computer? Chaotic computer? What? Playing with words? What kind of computer would that be? A computer that his architecture is built upon the tenets of chaos? If the word tenets, as regards to chaos make any sense. What are these tenets? Attributes or properties attached to the concept of chaos. That, what the word chaos, would bring forth in an individual's mind. What kind of thoughts would be triggered upon hearing the word chaos. It certainly is, the influence of the minute, the infinitesimal quantity upon the state presented or emerging. State presented or emerging being the output and the minute or infinitesimal, the input. And what chaos dictates about the potential influence of the minute and infinitesimal upon the emergent state, the output? It is down to the sensitive dependence on the initial conditions.

Initial conditions algorithmically determined, chipped, part of the computer hardware, upon which the selection would be based, which among the minutiae of states, would be the input which will compute the output, the emergent state.

Fractal computer architecture based on registers where values representing input states, are tested against the initial conditions algorithms, the more the fractal branches, the more of the minutiae input states can be tested. Or even, by breaking up the initial conditions algorithms into smaller ones, super/sub hierarchical levels, based on a kind of AND, OR, XOR or other gate configuration available, would increase ... the 'fractality'?

Increase in complexity? Fractal branches in several levels, all being placed in such a way that the lowest registers, fed with the input values, are directly linked to the highest level registers, carrying the values which will compute for the output states? And ensure an exponential or other increase of the population of minutiae that are tested against the initial conditions algorithms?

Initial conditions based on the problem, in seek of a solution? Reverse engineering of the chaotic processes involved? What about the other tenets of chaotically developed systems. Attractors and Lyapunov exponents, diverging and converging trajectories. Can they be incorporated in the fractal architecture, be part of the initial conditions algorithms, tweak the sensitivity sought for, in the initial conditions?

In my mind, all these thoughts follow up the blueprint of the brain, in ways that have been dealt with, in Genesis of Eden paper on Fractal Neurodynamics and Chaos: Resolving the Mind-Brain Paradox Through Novel Biophysics

"The four levels of instability link in stages, making it possible for the fractal aspect of chaotic dynamics at the global, cellular, synaptic and molecular levels to combine to provide a fractal model in which global and quantum instabilities are linked by mutual interactions of scale. The critical neuron, representing the neuron that sensitively responds to given initial conditions, fractally connected, affects the global state of the brain, the output which determines what is perceived or conceived.

The references on

initial conditions; which in my mind; the first thought it came up with, was chaos. The initial conditions, as a direct reference to chaos; chaos spawned the universe.

And in the same paragraph

"... Is time itself an emergent concept ..."

what an interesting approach. It opens up a whole new field of questions demanding an answer, looked upon from at totally new perspective, with hardly being able to comprehend, I do not have the faintest idea, where it could lead to.

Going further

"How does DM interact with ordinary baryonic matter; Is it wimpy; Can we detect it in the laboratory; How is it distributed in the Universe; What does this tell us about structure formation ..."

... about structure formation; being connected with dark matter? Implying that dark matter, is all around us. Undetected, as it is wimpy or possibly, it is us. We do not have the sensory equipment necessary, and even beyond, all the additional machines we use to extend our probing of nature, our attachments crutches, fail us. The waves, by which propagate, do not produce coherent structures, neither to us nor to the machines we use, to detect them?

"Economically viable", a phrase which should be eradicated from the minds of the people, along with whatever it symbolizes, whatever notions, ideas, practices or even concepts is associated with. It opens up wider routes to think about, what the role of states and governments is. Gives a wider perspective what the states and governments supposed to do.

It is directly connected with the most revered tenets of chaos embodied in the phrase 'butterfly's wing flap', the tiny change that should be effected in societies, at the level of the single individual, which will radically re-structure the societal complexities current, and adjust the social fibre to only amenable to states, emergent for that matter, where the human individual is at its core.

Its goal to proliferate human values, values for which any association with monetisation, any attempt to be looked at with economic criteria would be regarded, as is, an insult in the minds of the people and therefore scornfully rejected.

There is no need to appeal to the good will of any individual regardless its position or its clout, planetarch, read currently Barack Obama, presidents, prime ministers, ministers, governments and state officials as the authorities structures already in place, fought hard and gained by the struggle of innumerable individuals, our forefathers in countless generations before us, taken and not given, will assure that any change, minuscule by the matters of societies scales, in the minds of people, is sufficient to effect the re-structuring, societies should undergo.

Bootlegging, a term for delving into the chaotic world of creativity and innovation.

My search on leads on bootstrapping led to the term of bootlegging. Interesting connotations out of the the Wikipedia entry on bootlegging that gives another aspect of the word chaotic, one that does not agree with the commonly held notion of mayhem and destruction

So, bootlegging refer to as the way out of the conundrum of the lack of 'free space' for creativity? That was brought about by the rigid planning this form of human activity favours? No wonder. Being scared to loose whatever is thought as being accomplished, among them the cushy jobs, the office in the corner (why did I think of that?).

Is that so, or is it borne out of the competitiveness in that sector which instead of promoting, it stifles innovation? That everything they do is geared towards making up a penny, the economically viable prerogative. Services, products and lives of individuals take up a second place, lost in the chase for the monies as they are strained through a monetising sieve that if it does not restrict, it barely lets them through.

Constantly loosing touch of what is of value for human individuals, as gradually reach or reached the point that services and products become irrelevant, as it can be anything, even human excrement as long as it yields profits.

What difference does it make whether bootleg innovations are 'in line with the strategic objectives of the firm'? They would never be. The corporate world's only objective, strategic or not, is to make lots and lots of money. What kind of 'free space' for creativity can be accommodated there? Creativity extremely warped and distorted. It can hardly be recognised as such.

It is clearly a practice that they are ashamed of, as they called it bootlegging, a word borrowed from a distasteful past. Their origins.

The whole societal construct held by fragile, precarious threads that a snap is imminent, and will lead the construct to collapse?

A thought in need of pondering. It follows up what I read years ago, which in my mind is connected with the word, bootstrapped. Though that word came up in my mind with a meaning different for what the author in that paper used it for.

The bootstrapped mentioned by this author, was used to explain reality as a construction being created out of nothing, and sustained in existence, by being bootstrapped to its origins by future events. I do not know whether actually I give a full or even a partial account of what the author implied, mostly haphazard recollections in an attempt to re-create the image portrayed by the author's words.

I feel very little sense coming out from this recollection. However

But why did I? In my mind, assumed it to be, a way to explain the current state of societies in the world?

As if, the principles monetising societies are sustained by, are instantiated by the acts of individuals, who simultaneously resent what is supported.

Monetising societies as being the whole, the emergent product out of a series of unwilling, half-hearted, resented acts of the units-agents, the individuals amidst them?

Their thoughts, their minds, their feelings, every inch in them, being against, what by their acts effectively sustain? What they can be without?

They have to give support what they want to destroy, what they despise?

The whole structure is suspended by unwilling acts of individuals, a volatile construct held in place by so fragile, precarious threads which at any moment might snap? And the whole construct will descent into oblivion?

what I find interesting, is the appeal to 'various kinds of infinity' for understanding emergent phenomena. The connection with scale is intriguing, coming out from the mention of 'understand large-scale or complex phenomena in terms of their microscopic parts'. Infinities inherent in each scale level, which in sensical(?) terms, points toward infinities of parts that make up the emergent entities, in each successive level.

The infinity, let's say for the sake of following up the thought, of strings which give rise to the quantum particle entities, the somewhat next level up in the scale. Infinities of microscopic parts chunked-up in bundles, easier to handle and the same goes for entities, in each level of emergence organisation, what is referred to as the various kinds of infinities.

It brought into mind thoughts that occurred to me some time ago and recorded them in 'Thoughts about the origins of imagination?' post

A fundamental attribute of the human cognitive apparatus? One that determines the kind of experience amassed? It guides experience? Human resolving time T is responsible for the instantiation of experience? Experience is what is, because of our resolving time

The separateness of the events, as distinct entities. The information discerned is used to build experience. It determines its depth and breadth and its accuracy. Wholesome experience?

Experience, as such described , it defines observation. It provides the foundation of our subjectiveness.

In the Answers.com entry of coherence it mentions that

Human resolving time T should bear a significance on the way we see the world. How would a fast electronic device with a T of 10 billionths of a sec (10^-10) would see the world? What would the world look to us, if we had an equivalent resolving time T as that of a fast electronic device?

Highly coherent to a fast electronic device? But incoherent to the human ear? Coherent waves in phases that represent states? Superposition of states? The observer?

In 'Decoherence, the measurement problem, and interpretations of quantum mechanics'

"In fact, scientists most righly claim that the purpose of science is to describe human experience, not to describe “what really is”; and as long as we only want to describe human experience, that is, as long as we are content with being able to predict what will be observed in all possible circumstances (. . . ) we need not postulate the existence—in some absolute sense—of unobserved (i.e., not yet observed) objects lying at definite places in ordinary 3-dimensional space."

If science can only describe human experience, then what would science be, if instead of our familiar human resolving time T, our cognitive apparatus had the resolving time of a fast electronic device? Would our fast electronic device equipped human resolving time, have revealed and made part of our experience, any currently unobserved objects?

A case brought forward about quantum chaos

"At about the time of Poincare's seminal work on classical chaos, Max Planck started another revolution, which would lead to the modern theory of quantum mechanics. The simple systems that Newton had studied were investigated again, but this time on the atomic scale. The quantum analogue of the humble pendulum is the laser; the flying cannonballs of the atomic world consist of beams of protons or electrons, and the rotating wheel is the spinning electron (the basis of magnetic tapes). Even the solar system itself is mirrored in each of the atoms found in the periodic table of the elements. Perhaps the single most outstanding feature of the quantum world is its smooth and wavelike nature. No solid base? Quantum chaos not been irrevocably confirmed or in a milder version surely footed? The term only used to describe a conundrum faced up with, a curiosity but not the processes, quantum processes, themselves?

Mechanics, stretching that notion wider, to include anything that is described by, and, as systems such as social, mental, psychological and therefore social, mental, psychological mechanics? Attempting such an act based broadly on chaos self-similarity principle, and even further, by its virtue to go ahead and look at social, mental, psychological mechanics in novel ways?

And what about that elaborate mathematical tool called perturbation theory, which is used to calculate the effects of small interactions and extraneous disturbances to regular systems? Could it be of any use in social, mental, psychological systems? Or should we take stalk of what Henri Poincare surmised, as it is mentioned in the same website.

That there is, no discernible regularity or repetitive pattern, in most dynamic systems. That the behaviour of even a simple system can depend so sensitively on its initial conditions, that the final outcome is uncertain. Even a simple system? What is simple, but a construct, our minds devise, by removing all information contained in a system, or object, apart from what our minds deem as necessary? And being doing it, on and on, in individual or collective level alike? An act of abstraction that help us gain knowledge?

The necessary information, within the range defined by the maximum of our cognitive apparatus potential and the minimum needed for the overall information to make sense. What our minds can handle, but in reality systems possess a lot more information than we actually see (likened to a tip of the iceberg?), observe, and by virtue of that, no system is as simple as it looks, and therefore, it can not be predicted, as Henri Poincare surmised.

Is that a blessing or a curse? It is certainly a blessing.

So perturbation theory, dealing with the minute differences, in initial conditions. A precursor of that feature of chaos? I remember reading about mathematical calculations of hard problems, riddled with infinities, which perturbation theory have been removing. Does these menacing infinities have anything to do with the dynamics of chaotic states? In a way, describing the pull or push to the path of an unfolding trajectory? That is pulled towards infinity?

And what could we make out of the statement

or even

"The main connection between R and P is the Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser (KAM) theorem. How much can a system take? When a small perturbation is introduced? A small change of rule, or norm or a habit? Referring to the quality of the perturbation. Its overall effect in a regular system or just a system. Taken in to account that from all the perturbations possible, it is bound to be, that only a few would actually have a profound effect on the structure of a regular system, the state of a system, the stable state attractor. Most of the perturbations would have a negligent effect.

Why did I think about conservative values? The attractors, which we will not want to change? Content with the status-quo? We do not want changes.

The title 'From simple associations to systematic reasoning: A connectionist encoding of rules, variables, and dynamic bindings using temporal synchrony' impressed me, though having only the abstract limits my exposure. Hoomf, I spoke to soon, I got the pdf.

The authors Lokendra Shastri and Venkat Ajjanagadde, published this paper in 1993, in the 'Behavioral & Brain Sciences' journal, Volume 16 Issue (03). Their objective coming out in the following extract from the abstract. of the paper,

"We show how a connectionist network can encode millions of facts and rules involving n-ary predicates and variables, and perform a class of inferences in a few hundred msec."

Their 'connectionist network' handles millions of data, data that, as I could gather, are not simple ones or twos but a lot more complex, facts and rules. Without the need to refer to the n-ary predicates and variables, in order to grasp the complexity of the data and the enormity of the task, and despite all that, it performs inferences in a few hundredths of a msec.

Their network is outstanding just for its own sake, but the main reason, I focus on that, is because their 'connectionist network', is put forth, in order to simulate or emulate, (whatever), our brain. The human mind. Everyone's mind.

As they admit

"Human agents draw a variety of inferences effortlessly, spontaneously, and with remarkable efficiency -"

effortless, spontaneous, efficient hallmarks and

" — as though these inferences are a reflex response of their cognitive apparatus."

Reflex responses? No need to consciously think, to produce these inferences, without being accompanied by a feeling of ownership, that we are the owners of these responses. Which thereafter, puts into perspective the function of our consciousness, its role being to assure us that a tree is a tree and not something else. Only a pat in the shoulder.

Whereas the hard task of dealing with the harshness of life, the intractable computations we face in our daily lives, is left upon an underlying level of consciousness, be called unconscious or subconscious, or any other term someone feels comfortable with, as either of them have bundles of meanings with tarnished or distracting connotations. The main feature is that underlies our familiar, cherished consciousness, which certainly we are not aware of, when at work, or we were taught, indoctrinated, or learned not to be aware of, to ignore it. Myself, I let it do the work for me.

A remarkable human ability but despite that, it seems paradoxical? Unreal?
The reason they are dumbfounded is because, as they state

In other words, how can a system, (read: human individual), can be stupid and at the same time brilliant.

Irritated me, offended my sensibilities, I felt anger when I read the article Thinking is so over, in Times Online, attributed to 'net entrepreneur' Andrew Keen. When I started to write a comment I came up against a barrier, a count of words, unable to fully express myself. Demeaning readers contributions from the start, indicative of how much they value their readership opinions.

Even that little space would not have been there, if it was for them, alas, now, they can not ignore it, as the norms put forth by blogs demand it. Blogs that not only invite but rely upon their readers contribution. And thanks to the blogging medium, the forums where individuals can express their views without the need to comply to worthless rules. The omniscient mass media is in peril.

The views expressed by Andrew Keen, a blatant attempt to discredit and eventually kill what threatens and undermines their position. Trying hard to nurture and spread a trend, a 'bad-hair-day' sort of fad, against blogging. They must be cornered, loosing a long established grip, in human affairs, as how can otherwise explain their vehement attack. Playing their trump cards, offending individuals. Assaulting with a two-pronged attack, first branding blogs as monkey's business and trying to sway the public away from blogs. Pour scorn and ridicule for the already established scene and hoping to discourage any one else from following that path.

Ignoring that it is the system, that breeds monkeys, as they want monkeys, since only monkeys can digest, the monkey food they serve. A system, that they themselves are a big part of. If individuals behave like monkeys, it is because they are victims of a system with a horde of socially prescribed norms, of what is trendy or not, that the mass media faithfully implement. Stuffing into the people's minds that what is the goal in the individual in life, is to be in the spotlight, to rub shoulders with or become a celebrity, to be seen on TV or news tabloids, or the 20-second fame, or make money or be recognised in the streets.

All these things, that not only, do not contribute, but rob the individual, erode its potential. Behave like monkeys if they persist working along these guidelines the system prescribes, awaiting for recognition from the likes of the author and journalist.

Instead of concentrating and develop what is meaningful for them. Individuals that have aspirations ideas, that guide them in their pursuits, provide the framework, streamline their efforts towards succeeding in their goals. Put their viewpoint as a guide, not anybody's else, no matter how expert they profess to be. It is not left to pure chance.

playing dice, bets, that everything in life is down to pure chance, ignoring the powerful influence of chaos, that everything that exists in nature, in our minds, in our societies are down to the initial conditions, and these initial conditions carefully picked and chosen, sway away chance elements, greatly diminishes pure chance. It is not just monkeys and typewriters, but meanings that develop in individuals, left free to choose for the themselves, shape their initial conditions and by the sensitive dependence upon these initial conditions, that chaos prescribes, create new meanings, make life meaningful to them.

I will be damned, if I swallow the meaning of any expert without first crunch it through my brain, scrutinize it to the hilt, before I bring it forth and use it. Making it mine, my meaning, not anybody else, not even the expert as such.

Thinking is over? You are so right, since certainly your way of thinking is over, whereas the thinking that serves the individual, by the individual and for the individual is strong and it will continue unabated.

And as for the mass media accept the rules the blogs have brought forth and comply with them, instead of being a reactionary force be a contributory power, in the thinking rush that has overtaken our societies.

I stopped there. I found something profound mentioned. Brian Saam, physicist from Utah University explores the relationship between chaos theory and modern quantum physics and states:

"When you look at all the technology governed by quantum physics, it's not unreasonable to assume that if one can apply chaos theory in a meaningful way to quantum systems, that will provide new insights, new technology, new solutions to problems not yet known."

What to say? That I agree with this approach? Certainly I do? So what? Yes, it is something that was always in my mind and as yet I have not found anything relevant to corroborate towards it. Does that make any sense? Probably not. Maybe not, not even to my myself. So why do I go on writing about it? Is it not, what I always do? Nagging my brain for a lead to the next thread to follow? A thread which eventually will or could lead me to meaning? Meaning for my own sake to say the least?

One thing for sure. Chaos is going to give an answer to a lot of problems or questions, and not only in quantum mechanics but in almost (why almost?) all matters, that fall under the umbrella which we call knowledge.

The link I followed, brought me into the article 'Chaos-assisted tunneling in microlasers with partially chaotic resonators', by Podolskiy, V.A. and Narimanov, E.E.. Chaos involvement implied?

"Summary: We demonstrate that in lasers with non-integrable resonators, chaos-assisted tunneling leads to dramatic changes in the emission spectrum, removing the near-degeneracy of symmetry-related doublets and changing the lifetimes of high-Q modes by several orders of magnitude. Our theory is in quantitative agreement with numerical simulations."

Chaos-assisted tunneling? Quantum tunneling? Quantum events? In the quantum realm, a process which implicates chaos? It would be interesting to know the viewpoints of the authors, but unfortunately access is denied. A monetary induced prohibition. Payment is required.

Western societies have accumulated wealth, which could cover the needs of their citizens and not only. It could cover the needs of the citizens the world over.

But instead what do they do? Squeeze individuals in an incessant struggle to work all their lives away to sustain themselves and when they manage this they push them further to work even more, to possess things that they do not need, that they would never use. On top of this, they make everything possible, that whatever is left of their mental capacity, is drained down, in a useless endeavour for the most trivial details ever imagined.

An endeavour that suits the current established order of the few individuals that benefit heavily from such an arrangement and whereas they have everything anybody could ever imagine, they push themselves to have even more and as there are no more things to be had, they accumulate the medium for having the things they desire, in the first place.

Millionaires, billionaires and may be multimillionaires is not enough and who knows may be in their minds the idea of trillionaires or quadrillionaires is brewing up. They accumulate money, and they get more and more and since the drive never looses momentum, they try to make even more. They speculate, they perpetuate a false state of growth, in states economies. They are allowed to amass so much money that even states fall prey into their clutches. Idolized and revered incessantly by the media which they possess and control. Even by the media that are supposedly in the service of the public.

Instead of being despised for the sinister role they play, they are made role models for everyone to aspire to, a useless dream of becoming a millionaire as if the possession of things, will make anyone better than anyone else.

Amassing wealth should be taken as a crime against humanity and the biggest perps, who ever these might be, cases for the Hague tribunal to be tried and punished severely.

Understanding observation. What is there that really matters when we consider the impact observation has in quantum phenomena and not only? Interactions. I read in 'What is reality' website, in 'Quantum decoherence' chapter

"What happens in the real world is that a particle is not perfectly isolated: a particle inevitably interacts with the environment. These interactions have the effect of the particle "being observed" by the environment"

... particles, quantum entities, in isolation? And while, or more likely, if in isolation, exist in a superposition of states? However, isolation is a situation hard to come by. Particles everywhere, interactions ensue. Interactions which have the effect of particles 'being observed'. Observation being one way to trigger interactions. And as in the example cited

"when you take the temperature of an object using a thermometer, you have to remove a very small sample of heat from the object."

even by seeing an object we take in, no matter how imperceptible, an amount of the electromagnetic energy inherent in an object, carried by the photons that hit our retina. And, as it is further mentioned

"The measuring device has altered the object-"

The measuring device, our retina, alters the object? The observing human individual, the measuring device, measurement a form of interaction, interactions ongoing since the birth of the universe or even earlier, eliminating any anthropic principle notions? The universe does not need us?

And even though in the macroscopic world that amount, amounts to nothing, it is not the case for the microscopic, the quantum world. Each photon that enters our retina hits first the object. Trillions or zillions of particles in the object are hit. Zillions of electrons in the outer orbits of the object's surface atoms excited by the incoming photons, jumped to higher orbits. Their superposition of states decoheres. Zillions of decohered electrons combine into the object? The object altered, collectively? Collective decoherence?

But the object was already decohered, being a part of a massively populated, by objects, environment. Where interactions are constant. And have being going on for eons. So the world is there. A mass of objects, (decohered? Yes.) of every size possible, living or non-living where observation does little, in its day-to-day rigmarole. It is already decohered, it does not alter further.

Where observation plays a role is where state superposition still exists, in remote and safe isolation, as it is in the deep recesses of atoms, where Planck scales considered, quantum entities are thousands of miles away from other particles or where it is artificially induced, in physics lab as it is mentioned

where decoupling quantum particles from their environment effectively isolates them. But not in a hermetically sealed box, where the poor Schrödinger's cat is dead, long before any benevolent soul opens the hatch. The ideas brought forth in this website got me going and I felt, I let my own thoughts unravel, unrestricted.

I read in the text, under the title 'How the environment eliminates interference effects',

"In the page on The Quantum Casino we have seen that when a measurement of an observable is performed, the quantum state appears to "jump" to a particular eigenstate (with the observable taking the associated eigenvalue). This apparent jumping puzzled physicists for many years because it was not understood how and why the usually linear time-evolution of the Schrödinger equation should suddenly decide to make a sudden jump."

A measurement of an observable been performed? Eigenstates and eigenvalues, as referring to states being part of a superposition? Simultaneously, with regard to the element of time, existing states? Superposed states? Or, would it make any difference if these superposed states are thought with regard to the element of space? States that occupy, in a sense overlapping, the same space? So, their simultaneous existence in the superposition can be attributed to the element of time? Existing or co-existing in the same space but at different times? Or, that thought can be turned around and assume the superposed states as existing at the same time but differ in the space that each superposed state occupies? A sort of time-like space and space-like time? Connected with the many worlds and many histories quantum interpretations? Quantum entities simultaneously existing in all worlds possible and at all times possible and by the measurement of an observable one of the superposed states decoheres? A particular eigenstate with its associated eigenvalue instantiates into a world state? unravelling

But what about the Schrödinger equation? Is that so significant? Bringing forth the thought that entered my mind often enough, that maths is a tool to stretch the human mind imagination. To break through a deadlock. And once this is done, to stay aside and let the imagination create. It is not the Schrödinger equation that decides to make a sudden jump. Its job is to set the stage for further thoughts to unravel. Trying to explain how the tool works would not provide new insights, new ways to conceive a phenomenon, new concepts. You can not explain a phenomenon with a tool. This over-reliance in maths and equations and rigorous solutions bears unyielding fruits. Moreover, as it is contained in the phrase 'the usually linear time-evolution', usually and not at all cases point towards the end of its usefulness in unraveling further the phenomenon.

Incompatible tendencies, that each in itself exerts its influence on an object, a common object, to opposite directions, unreconciled? Yet, despite their incompatibility, they are reconciled (they are forced to?) and their net effect on the object combined. Potential for emergence and emergent states chaotically derived. A dynamic structure, a precarious one, is established. The combined state, fragile as is, possess properties that neither of the pre-existing states has, a direct consequence of the incompatibility intrinsic within. However, the newly emergent state is as stable as the conditions in the surrounding environment permit and it will remain as such as long as these conditions are at force.

If for any reason these conditions cease to be, then the antagonistic alliance ceases too, bringing about the collapse ... Collapse? Is there anything here apart from a tentative connection, an outcome out of the different meanings implied by the use of the word collapse? The word collapse connected with the wavefunction collapse of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum physics? Whereas in that particular case I refer to the collapse of the precarious combination of incompatible, mutually exclusive states? The collapse of the emergent state? Leave for later.

The incompatibility angle is evident in fundamental issues in nature. What comes out of Jonathan CW Edwards mention of

In an ontological approach, the wave and position, the quite different roles they play, point towards wave and position being incompatible, mutually exclusive providing the grounds for an understanding of the uncertainty principle?

What the uncertainty principle is all about? As it is mentioned in Wikipedia

"... the Heisenberg uncertainty principle states that locating a particle in a small region of space makes the momentum of the particle uncertain; and conversely, that measuring the momentum of a particle precisely makes the position uncertain."

Momentum and position incompatible? The dynamic combination of these two mutually exclusive quantities create a force field, and the focus, their combined actions instantiate, constantly shifting? Lying on chaotically developing trajectories? Eludes detection, measurement? Therefore the ensuing uncertainty?

A dynamically developing relationship which makes it impossible to precisely define position and momentum, even more it makes it a useless pursuit. The dynamic relationship renders it useless, more precisely a redundant concept, baggage carried by the collective human thought from a society dominated by the classical physics tenets, and as it entered the quantum era should be discarded.

Incompatibility is implied and in this extract by Natika Newton about the concept of person, in the Emergence of consciousness book. As I read in page 54,

"Note that the emergent experiential concept of a person as having both objective and subjective aspects is not itself objectively unifiable: objective and subjective (outer and inner) perspectives on the same entity are mutually exclusive, at least within our common perceptual framework. The objective and subjective facets, the incompatible states interwoven chaotically and the conditions stipulation, under which such a combination instantiates 'personhood', inherent in the common conceptual framework? The conceptual framework responsible for the rise of our identity? The concepts we amass through our lives constantly influence our 'personhood'? Acquiring new concepts, discarding fallacious concepts, delving deeper into each and every concept in the 'common conceptual framework', directly affects the image we hold for ourselves?

What does this bring into my mind? Unconscious, I would call thinking but it sounds more like a misnomer than a proper word to describe what I have in mind, but nevertheless just leave it as such. It is mostly to do with what we choose to do when a situation demands our action. What path to follow? What branch in a given bifurcation to take. I maintained that the best way to go about is to leave rationality aside. Abandon thoughts of conscious planning, step by step reasoning and give our conscious or subconscious full reign.

What it struck me most in this innovative activity described in stevepavlina.com in his report of the raw spirit festival, that the same holds not only for single individuals but even for groups of individuals. By referring to time limits imposed by the demands of the activity engaged, not having enough time to debate on what is to be done, to develop a structure in the group, the hallmarks of rational planning or conscious thinking but instead to rely upon .... Upon what? The raw power of neural processes ever ready to furnish up solutions to problems? Dealing out a plethora of versions of solutions to choose from, where any involvement of conscious thinking or rational planning will stall for ever?

What is mentioned as taking place when consciousness is under way by Natika Newton in Anthony Freeman's 'The Emergence of Consciousness' book, in the 'Emergence and the Uniqueness of Consciousness' chapter page 54;

"The newly conscious state, in turn, allows the organism more degrees of freedom to select future actions, since its own responses can now be represented as explicit goals subject to rational planning, rather than remaining behind-the-scene-approach/avoidance motivators."

that an individual's responses to demands its self is placed upon, it should not be left or it is better not to be subjected to rational thinking but the behind-the-scene-approach/avoidance motivators?

I read in Jonathan CW Edwards, 'Is Consciousness Only a Property of Individual Cells?' paper

"However, as Seager (1995) has pointed out, a brain has many different functions at different structural levels and it is not clear why one or other should be endowed with consciousness."

What it struck me here, is the phrase 'endowed with consciousness'. Brain functions endowed with consciousness and brain functions that don't? Referring to consciousness as an attribute or property that a function, a brain function at least, could have or not? Is it not consciousness a function in itself? What is a function? A dynamically evolved association between objects or states. Or as it is described here

"The mathematical concept of a function expresses dependence between two quantities, one of which is given (the independent variable, argument of the function, or its "input") and the other produced (the dependent variable, value of the function, or "output"). A function associates a single output to each input element drawn from a fixed set, such as the real numbers."

Its mathematical definition, the groundwork of function, a dependence relationship between what it is 'input' with and what represents the result, its output. A function, brain function again, that while it is underway, it produces, beyond its expected output, (since it is endowed with consciousness, a sort of privilege) consciousness as well. It is not the brain function's primary goal, what spawn it or responsible for, in the first place but nevertheless, consciousness comes out too. So what is consciousness then? A byproduct of some brain functions? Or even, as in several cases, a waste product?

Is it not consciousness, a function in itself then? With its own input, as well as output, in a dependence relationship between some objects or quantities involved? This line of thought approaches some other thoughts I expressed before, consciousness looked, as even as, an extra baggage carried along, piggy-backed by more crucial brain functions that goes along, as far as I can tell, with epiphenomenalism, mere mention sufficing, focusing on the substance of the problem and not the procedure.

May this be how consciousness arises but the crucial issue is, its usage. How do we use that gift given to us.

Economics, the people and the planet.

This is an extract from nef (new economics foundation) in a Google search for monetisation that struck me curious, to say the least,

"nef is an independent 'think and do' tank. We believe in economics as if people and the planet mattered."

Economics, as if people and the planet mattered? As if? As if, as, who cares? Is that a problem with the language? Language structure, infrastructure as such, that is incapable to express, accurately or not, the thoughts of people? 'If' it matters. Do the people and the planet matter? It is not clear.

Is it an intrinsic weakness in the economics terminology body that makes it impossible to consider the needs of individuals and the planet or for the discipline of economics, as such, people and the planet do not matter? Do not matter at all? Or, the sensitivities of the nef inventors, for whatever reason, did not allow them to spell it out clearly that their think tank is about economics that people and the planet matter, for the people and the planet and not if the people and the planet matter.
